National Institute of Design (NID) is internationally acclaimed as one of the foremost multi-disciplinary institutions in the field of design education and research. The institute functions as an autonomous body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. National Institute of Design is nationally and internationally acclaimed as one of the finest educational and research institutions for industrial, Communication, Textile and IT integrated (Experiential) Design. The Business Week, USA has listed NID as one of the top 25 design programs in the world. From November 2010 onwards NID is set to enter the 50th year of its inception.

Eligibility Criteria:

Eligibility for Bachelor Programmes-Design: B Des (Fashion Design/ Leather Design/Accessory Design/Textile Design/Knitwear Design/ Fashion Communication)

  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination. Eligibility for Bachelor Programme-Technology: BF Tech (Apparel Production)
  • The +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Maths equivalent

Eligibility for Master Programme -Design: M. Des (Master of Design)

  • Graduation degree from a recognized University in any discipline or equivalent. Candidates having relevant industry experience in areas of Fashion/Textile/Communication Design would be pre-ferred.
  • If a candidate possessing graduation Degree in any discipline applies for the course, then he /she has to compulsorily undergo 2 months (i.e. 8 weeks) training programme to develop the de-sired skills before taking on the course itself.

Admission Process

For admission to its various courses, NIFT conducts a written examination which is mandatory for all candidates wishing to pursue study at NIFT. The examination is conducted at 30 centres across the country. The candidates will have to appear for the written test at the Examination Centre opted by them.

The written examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the course they have opted. Hence the test will be on the basis of the programme a candidate has applied for. The test is of objective nature, with a system of negative marking at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

Candidates will first be short listed on the basis of the written examination. After that short listed candidates will be called for Situation Tests, Interview and General Discussions.

Admissions to IIFT are done on the basis of the marks obtained in the qualifying examination and on a first cum first serve basis subject to availability of seats.

In NID, apart from written text, all candidates are required to attend the design aptitude tests. Short listed candidates will be asked to attend a studio test and interview.

Description of Admission Test Programme-wise

Bachelor Programmes-Design: B.Des. (Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication).

The candidates applying for this programme will be administered with General Ability Test (GAT) and Creative Ability Test (CAT) for the written entrance examination.

General Ability Test (GAT): This test will comprise of various sub-tests as given below:

1) Quantitative Ability 2) Communication Ability
3) English Comprehension 4) Analytical Ability
5) General Knowledge and Current Affairs    

 

  1. Quantitative Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the quantita-tive ability of the candidates. The sub test consists of questions on Addition, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Per centage, Rate of Interest, Work and Task, Ratio and Proportion, and Distance.
  2. Communication Ability: This sub-test is aimed at testing the lan-guage ability of the candidates in day to day communication in English. It includes questions on synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, etc.
  3. English Comprehension: The sub-test is to test one’s ability to comprehend a situation from a given passage.
  4. Analytical Ability: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s inference and logic from the given information.
  5. General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.

Qsn. What exams do I need to give for NID Admissions 2014 - 2015 ?
Ans. Candidates aspiring to take admission in NID (National Institute Of Design) Undergraduate & Postgraduate Courses have to take NID entrance exam
 
The NID (National Institute Of Design ) entrance exam comprises of two levels :
 
  1. DAT ( Design Aptitude Test ), is a written Test generally held in the month of January
  2. NID Studio Test is generally held in the month of April - May. All candidates selected in the first phase exam - DAT have to appear for the Studio Test. This test plays a very important role in the final selection. It includes a series of test: 3-D model making / Material Handling , Thematic/psychometric test, Audio / visual test , Sketching test , Pschychological test & Conceptualization Skills. Students are also called for Personal Interview along with their Portfolio.
