In India, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, (ICAI) does the job of regulating the profession of Chartered Accountancy. It is set up under the Chartered Accountancy Act of 1949.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India periodically reviews the scheme of Education and Training to remain in tandem with developments in the field of education and other changes at national and global level. Evolving business demands newer skills from the accounting professionals. Accordingly, the existing scheme was revamped and a new scheme was launched on 10th December, 2008.
Exam Dates & Pattern for Common Proficiency Test 2017
Common Proficiency Test will be held on (Paper – Pencil Mode) will be held on 18th June 2017 (Sunday)
First Session (i.e. Morning Session): 10.30 A.M. to 12.30 P.M (IST); Section-A: Fundamentals of Accounting; Section-B: Mercantile Laws
Second Session (Afternoon Session): 02.00 P.M. to 04.00 P.M. (IST); Section-C: General Economics; Section-D: Quantitative Aptitude
It is an entry level test for Chartered Accountancy Course, which is held twice a year in June and December for registered students of Common Proficiency Course (CPC).
The test comprises of four subjects viz., Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude with an objective to test basic knowledge in these subject areas. This test is for 200 marks and is divided into two sessions of two hours each with a break in between. CPT is an objective type test with negative marking. Subjects are to be studied in CPT as follows:
Session-I (Two Sections – Two hours – 100 marks)
Section A: Fundamentals of accounting (60 marks)
Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 marks)
Session-II (Two Sections – Two hours – 100 marks)
Section C: General Economics (50 marks)
Section D: Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks)
Students who wish to pursue Chartered Accountancy Course can register for the Common Proficiency Course (CPC) after passing 10th examination and can appear for CPT either on appearing or on passing 10+2 examination
Students who wish to pursue the next step of CA course are required to qualify CPT as well as 10+2 or its equivalent examination
