Eligibility to join CBI in assistant Grade is a bachelors degree from a recognised University
Exam: Combined Graduate Preliminary Exam, conducted by the staff selection commission every year.
Age: Min: 20 years, Max: 27 years. 5 yrs. relaxation to SC/ST/ 3 yrs OBC.
The Preliminary Exam is followed by Main Exam. Main Exam comprises of English Language, comprehension, communication skill and writing Ability, Arithmetic & General studies.

Assistant Grade Exam is conducted by staff selection commission-Class III & Class IV category in central and state Govt. cadre.

- Grade II Cypher Asst of the Cypher cadre of IF Service Branch.
- Assistant Grade of the Railway Board Secretariat service.
- Assistant Grade of the Armed Forces HQ civil/service
- Assistant in other Depts. Not included above.
Age: 20-25 yrs. (SCs/STs-Max. age limit extended)
SSC-is held on a Yearly basis-2 phases.

Staff selection commission conducts this exam every year for the following posts.
- Inspectors of Central Excisein different collectorates of Central Excise
- Examine (Ordinary Grade) in custom House at Mumbai, Kolkatta, Goa, Cochin, Chennai & Visakhapatnam.
- Preventive officer (Ord-Grade) in custom Houses at Mumbai, Goa, Cochin, Kolkatta, Chennai, & Vizag.
- Inspector of Income Tax in different charges of the Commissioner of Income Tax.
- Assistant Enforcement Officers in the Directorate of Enforcement (FERA).
Age: 18-25 Yrs. (SCs/STs/DBC & Dept. candidates relaxable)
Educational Qualications: Degree from a recognised University
Physical Standards-Inspector of Central Excise, Preventive Officers-candidates will have to satisfy minimum physical standards.
Exam held once a year in the month of April. Last Date-Last week of December of last year. Exam comprises of (i) written Exams (ii) Interview for Personality Test.

Arithmetical Ability-fundamental Arithmetic.
Operations, Per centages, ratio & proportion, average estimation, rounding of numbers, use of tables, graphs, mensuration, time & distance, ratio & time.
Gen. Awareness: GA of the environment and application to society. Current events, India and its neighbouring countries, pertaining to history culture, Geography Economic & general politics & Scientific research.
